The skinfade is one of the most versatile cuts, but it does not suit everyone. Read this before asking for one.

What exactly is a skinfade?

A fade where the sides go down to skin (zero) at the lowest point, with progressive transition upward. It can be low, mid or high.

It is not the same as a buzz cut: the skinfade has gradation, not uniform length.

Who it suits best

  1. Oval or square faces. They use the contrast without losing proportion.
  2. Thick or full hair. The texture contrast works better.
  3. Those with long or medium top. The skinfade needs contrast above.

When NOT to ask for it

If your face is very round, a skinfade might emphasise it. In that case, go for a classic mid or low fade.
